Net Neutrality Could Be Detrimental to the Economy
It’s feared that rule changes regarding net neutrality recently adopted by the FCC may have a detrimental effect on smaller companies. Several newly established businesses in Seattle believe these changes will make it harder for them to achieve success. These companies have followed over 1,000 others countrywide in signing a letter of protest to the FCC and pleading with the president to protect net neutrality. So far, it seems as though all objections have fallen on deaf ears.
Multiple CEOS and company founders have issued personal statements berating the FCC’s decision. Net neutrality dictates that internet service providers (ISPs) must treat all web traffic equally and forbid taking money to provide a quicker service for certain websites. The abolishment of net neutrality favors big companies who can afford to pay extra. The FCC argues that their decision will stimulate the growth of internet providers, compensating for recent falls in broadband investment.
Joshua Gebhardt, CEO, and co-founder of Metricstory, has publicly rebuked both the FCC and especially telecom companies, branding them lazy. Metricstory helps companies to analyze substantial web traffic and extract useful data. If under new FCC net neutrality rules, web traffic to the companies Metricstory deals with lessens, their profits will be depleted significantly. Furthermore, increased costs as a result of these new rules mean added expenses that will inevitably be passed on to the paying client. Gebhardt said this comes as the company is on the verge of making a profit. Despite the FCC’s unfavorable decision, those trying to fight the rule changes don’t stand alone. Washington governor Jay Inslee has vowed to act to reverse the changes and claims there is significant capacity to maintain net neutrality. Inslee has already launched ventures aimed at challenging the FCC. Whilst all Seattle start-up companies are grateful for the spirited support of the governor, they are hoping for a wider response, perhaps from the federal government. The reinstatement of complete net neutrality seems the only way to ensure fair and equal access for all companies.

Chicago constantly ranks as one of the most sociable cities in America. Great for meeting new people, partying, and, of course, pizza. This may seem a surprising addition as it tops many more famous cities, such as Miami and New York, but its inclusion is definitely warranted. Chicago’s pedigree when it comes to food and drink, friendly people, and great nightlife make it one of the most enjoyable big cities to visit.
Illinois’s most populous city, Chicago has plenty of new and luxurious hotels which offer plenty to their guests. The Holland is a very advisable choice when visiting The Windy City for many reasons. As well as modern designer rooms that prioritize comfort, it is a buzzing social hub. The always busy bar and café offer a great chance to meet fellow patrons. Best of all, dorms start from as little as $44 per night.
Second on the list is Boston. The capital of Massachusetts shares many of the qualities that make Boston an ideal destination for socializing. The vibrant city has great options for eating as well as plenty of bars and clubs in which to live it up.
If Boston is at the top of your destination list, a great place to stay is the HI Boston hotel. With not only attractive accommodation, the HI Boston is perhaps better known for having an extremely busy social space. The bar offers the perfect place to start your evening adventures. Furthermore, the hotel’s location is smashing for newcomers. Situated very close to Boston Common and Chinatown, it’s a great starting place from which to get a taste of the city. Just like its Chicago counterpart, dorms can also be had starting at just $44 per night.
